Violent crime in Cebu, September 2020

Sep. 1, 2020. Sergio Villapania was shot dead by his neighbor, a retired police officer, at Brgy. Poblacion, Sibonga.

Sep. 4, 2020, 8PM. Vicente Jorolan , 63, farmer, Brgy. Basak, Badian, had his head nearly cut off by a 49-year old fisherman .

Sep. 6. Peter Danuhan, 55, laborer, Brgy. Victoria, San Remigio, was hacked to death by two brothers.

Sep. 5, 11PM. Ronie Lawas, 25, habalhabal driver, was shot to death by a man wanted for homicide. This happened at Brgy. Tubod, Minglanilla.

Sep. 8, 2020. The body of Norlito Villasan was found early in the morning by his neighbors in Sibonga. He had a big wound at the back of his head.

Sep. 10, 2020, 10:20AM. Ruben Requinto Quieta, 48, an Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) policeman, and his son Gavin Quieta, 19, So. Villa Elena, Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City. The two men were onboard their car when ambushed by four suspects at So. Mohon in Tisa. The father was killed on the spot while the son died at the hospital. Ruben Quieta was reportedly transferred from Police Regional Office 7 to a region in Luzon in July 2016 when more than 20 police officers from Cebu were transferred to Luzon and Mindanao. At least three of these police officers have been liquidated during visits to Cebu.

Sep. 10, 2PM. Albert Hermosisima , 27, So. Tunga, Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in Brgy. Tangke. He had reportedly been arrested in a drug raid on May 4, 2018.

Sep. 11, 2AM. Kylle Clifford Soon, 20, Purok 4, Brgy. Tugbongan, Consolacion. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Purok 5, Tugbongan.

Sep. 14, 2020, 6PM. Juvilyn Luminkit Quirante, 43, resident of Wireless, Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City, native of City of Tangub, Province of Misamis Occidental. The victim who had just been released from Mandaue City Jail after posting bail, was walking with his live-in partner when shot dead by suspects riding in a car. Quirante was one of five men arrested at the Bogo City wharf on October 20 2019 after the J Centre Mall armed robbery on October 19. Aside from the five arrested, four others were killed in the shootout with the police at the wharf. All nine – including Quirante – plus four others were charged with Robbery in Band a few days later (Banat News, October 24, 2019).

Sep. 15, around 3PM. Edmund “Bernie” Junco, 65, retired police officer, Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. The victim was driving his car with his wife in Brgy. Talamban when he was shot and killed by riding in tandem.

Sep. 18, 8PM. Engr. Roberto Llanillo, 53, and his son Malbert Llanillo, 26, were shot dead by Edwin Ferguson, 32, who was later shot dead by the responding police. A German national was shot too and in critical condition as of September 19. All four men were staying at the same apartment building in So. Kintolimbo, Brgy. Calajo-an, Minglanilla. Malbert and Edwin appear to have had an argument. When Engr. Llanillo tried to pacify them he was shot dead on the spot. The son and the German were shot when they tried to help the engineer.

Sep. 19, 2020, past 7PM. Zandro “Sanny” Augusto, councilor of Brgy. Mactan, Lapu Lapu City, businessman. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in front of his pawnshop in Brgy. Poblacion, Lapu Lapu City.

Sep. 19, 10PM. A 42-year old farmer was shot and wounded by an unidentified suspect at Brgy. Kahumayan, Danao City.

Sep. 19, 2020 (night time). Joseph “Jojo” Payot, 47, laborer at the Carbon Public Market (Cebu City), from Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. The victim was going to sleep at the market when he was shot by riding in tandem. He died later at the hospital.

Sep. 20, 9PM or later. Rogelio Tupas, 60, carpenter, and Virginia Tupas, 55, fish vendor, So. Saging, Brgy. Lawaan 2, Talisay City. Two unidentified suspects entered the couple’s house and shot them dead.

Sep. 22, 2020, 5AM. Dionesio Otapil, So. Lingatong, Brgy. Vito, Balamban, was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Lacdon, Brgy. Prenza, Balamban. The victim’s 26-year old cousin was wounded. The victim was reportedly a faith healer.

Sep. 26, 1PM. Maria Victoria Lingal, 41, widow, store owner, Brgy. Tayud, Liloan. The victim had just arrived home when two unidentified persons riding separate motorcycles arrived and shot her dead.
