Violent crime in Cebu, January 2021

Jan. 1 (Friday), shortly after 6PM. Ruben Feliciano, businessman, native of Zamboanga but temporary resident of Brgy. Apas, Cebu, ran for mayor of San Fernando, Cebu in May 2019. The victim was walking in Apas when estimated five armed men riding a van without plate number shot him dead. The victim’s niece was wounded in the attack.

Jan. 1, 2021. The body of an unidentified male person is found at So. Lunas, Brgy. Cadaruhan, Borbon. The face was covered and had been set on fire.

Jan. 2, 2021, 1PM. Jimmy Tabura, 50, security guard, habalhabal driver and former tanod, Brgy. Inayawan, Cebu City. The victim was shot by unidentified suspects at Inayawan. He died later at Cebu City Medical Center.

Jan. 3, 2021, past 5PM. Danie Alolod, 40, Brgy. Kaongkod, Madridejos. The victim was Whig dead by his neighbor, David Medallo who is connected with PDEA-7. The suspect is now jailed.

Jan. 4, 2021, early evening. Jeff Charl Mayormita, 16, Tinago, Cebu City. Suspect or suspects entered the small room of the victim and shot him to death.

Jan. 8, 2021, around 11AM. Retired Police Lt. Col. Renato “Rey” Malazarte, 55, in butane business, Brgy. Luz, Cebu City. The victim was shot by riding in tandem at Brgy. Luz, Cebu City. He expired at the hospital. The victim was deputy director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office when he in August 2016 was reassigned to Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for alleged involvement in illegal drugs. The victim retired from service shortly thereafter.

Jan. 9 (Saturday), 2021. Jovelyn Verana Meguizo, 37, daycare worker, Upper Becerril, Boljoon. The victim was found by her 7-year old early morning of January 9, hacked to death.

Jan. 10, 2021. Fraxzedes Resonable, 72, Brgy. Manatad , Sibonga. The victim was stabbed to death. She was a victim of robbery.

Jan. 11, 2021, 8PM. Rijie Digoro, 43, PUJ driver, Cordova. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Calan, Brgy. Poblacion, Cordova.

Jan. 12, 2021, 1PM. Nelma Moca Abalos, 47, Cansojong, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Cansojong. She was allegedly a police asset who had received threats and therefore had transferred to Cansojong recently.

Jan. 14, 2021, 10:30PM. Jail Officer 2 Reymond Roble Vasquez, 34, JO2 at Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Danao City, resident of Brgy. Cogon Cruz, Danao City. The victim was attacked and shot dead by eight masked persons riding four motorcycles at Brgy. Dunggoan, Danao City. The victim was inside his multi cab.

Jan. 17 (Sinulog Sunday). Randy Salera, 40, was shot dear at So. Rosario, Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City.

Jan. 18, 3:45PM. Survived. Anthony John “Antoy” Apura, 38, president of Carcar City Association of Barangay Councils and son of Mayor Nice Apura, survived a murder attempt at parking area in So. Tangasan, Brgy. Valladolid, Carcar City. The assailant or assailants was/were riding a car.

Jan. 21, 2020 12:30PM. Piara Singh , 60, an Indian National, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Brgy. Upper Lamac, Consolacion.

Dec. 2, 6PM. Reneboy Cañete, 27, Asturias. The victim was snot dead by riding in tandem in Carlos P. Garcia Street, Brgy. Poblacion, Danao City.

Dec. 3, 9AM. Police Staff Sergeant Gerfil “Popot” Opeña Geollina, 44, assigned in Asturias, residing at Brgy. DAS, Toledo City. The victim was ambushed by riding in tandem at Purok Manga, Brgy. Dumlog, Toledo City.

Dec. 3, 6PM. Kaysyh Billones Dumagat, 21, call center agent, a native of La Libertad, Negros Oriental, but residing and working in Lapu Lapu City. The victim was snot dead at a beach resort in Liloan, Cebu, where she was on an outing with friends.

Dec. 9, 8PM. Manulito “Iti” Dagoc, 53, Brgy. Sambag II, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by five unidentified persons riding three motorcycles at Visitacion Street, So. SNCA, Brgy. Sambag II.

Dec. 13, evening. Cesar Cristobal Radar, 58, retired army soldier, native of Paoay, Ilocos Norte, but residing at Brgy. Cansojong, Talisay City. The victim was on his way home from a party when he was waylaid by unidentified gunmen at Brgy. Dumlog, Talisay City.

Dec. 16, 2020, 6:30PM. P/MSgt. Elizar “Soysoy” Chiong Llanes, 42, Chief Investigator, Cordova Police Station, residing at Brgy. Basak, Mandaue City but a native of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental. The victim was shot dead by four unidentified suspects at Brgy. Poblacion, Cordova.

Dec. 17, 2:50PM. Atty. Baby Maria Concepcion Landero-Ole, Danao City. The victim was ambushed by riding in tandem at Brgy. Looc, Danao City. Her husband, Juanito Flores Ole, was shot dead by unidentified suspects in May 26, also at Poblacion, Danao City. He had served time for drugs at New Bilibid Prison.

Dec. 25, 7PM. A man from Barili was shot and wounded by an unidentified suspect at Brgy. Poblacion 1, Carcar City

Dec. 26, 10PM. Leonilo Datig, 69, Brgy. Valencia, Carcar City, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant inside his kitchen.

Violent Crime in Cebu, November 2020

Nov. 1 (Sunday). Wilson “Wiwis” Alcordo Ledesma, 31, So. Tangasan, Brgy. Valladolid, Carcar City. The victim was shot and hacked to death by the suspect at So. Dam, Brgy. Poblacion 1, Carcar City. The suspect, a 34-year old security guard with residence at Poblacion 3, Carcar City, was arrested the following day in Brgy. Sangi, Toledo City. The victim was arrested in December 2012 for involvement in shooting incidents that resulted to the death of two young men on May 30 of that year. The violence was related to rivalry between two fraternities and the murder of Carl Vinson Apura, the son of the mayor, on May 13, 2012.

Nov. 2. Darwin Yburan, 42, traffic enforcer of Cebu City Traffic Office, and his brother Dwight, 39, Brgy. Bulacao, Cebu City. Two or three unidentified suspects entered the home of the brothers and shot the two. It appears that Darwin was the target. He died shortly after the attack. Dwight passed away on November 8.

Nov. 6. Friday. Rodelio Dungog, 38, Brgy. Calawisan, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was sleeping when the two suspects arrived and shot him dead. The suspects have been identified.

Nov. 6, 9PM. Edwin Moralde, 58, former employee of Lapu Lapu City Public Market, Brgy. Babag, Lapu Lapu City. Five unidentified suspects entered the victim’s house and shot him dead.

Nov. 6, 9:30PM. Ray Godinez Yuson , 39, businessman, So. Fatima, Brgy Jubay, Liloan. The victim was shot dead while he was driving his car, his bag stolen at Brgy. Pitogo, Consolacion.

Nov. 9, 6:30PM. Nico Niño Cabahug Perez, 20, Sudlon, Brgy. Maguikay, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at the intersection of Cebu North Road and Canduman Road, Brgy. Basak, Mandaue City. His 60-year old mother was wounded. The mother and son were riding a taxi, coming from the court where Nico Niño had posted bail. He was arrested in a drug buy bust operation in Consolacion on November 7.

Nov. 11, 2020. Porferio Reyes, Jr. , former barangay kagawad of Brgy. Balao, Barili. The victim was shot dead by a 41-year old man who was identified by the victim’s son. The suspect was arrested in Dumanjug on November 12. The motive was reportedly jealousy and the suspect had previously tried to kill Reyes.

Nov. 13. Jovani Pacaña Dayangco, 37, airport police at the Mactan Cebu International Airport, residence of Brgy. Ocaña, Carcar City. The victim had just returned to his home from work and was outside when riding in tandem arrived and shot him dead.

Nov. 17, 2020, 3AM. Bladie Mherl Badayos, 22, So. Kilawan, Brgy. Tanke, Talisay City. The victim was outside near his home when an unidentified suspect walked up to him and shot him in the head. The victim was allegedly drug user and sold drugs according to the police.

Nov. 19, morning. Vincent “Shiote” Yu Cañada, 29, resident (but not native) of Brgy. Lorega-San Miguel, Cebu City, processor of car sales at a bank. The body of the victim was found in Brgy. Garing, Consolacion. The hands were tied on the back and the face covered with packaging tape. Friends and relatives of Cañada reported him missing on Nov. 18

Nov. 21, 5AM. Arlene Buenafe, 31, housemaid, was shot dead while two of her three companions – including her employer who is an employee of Badian Municipal Assessor’s Office, were wounded, when the tricycle they were riding was attacked at Brgy. Basak, Badian.

Nov. 23, early afternoon. Joey Luis Wee, 51, lawyer, Cebu City. The victim was climbing the stairs leading to his office in Brgy. Kasambagan, Cebu City, when he was shot dead unidentified suspects. Update: on Dec. 8, the NBI arrested Fausto Edgar Peralta, a member of Philippine Army 1985-90, officer in charge of a security agency with branches in various parts of the country, in Laguna. Peralta is allegedly the triggerman. Together with five other suspects he reportedly flew to Cebu on November 13 to carry out the murder. Update January 20 2021: Peralta points to Ret. Army Lt. Col. Edwin F. Layese as the person who contracted Peralta and his group to murder Atty. Wee. Layese is in custody of the NBI.

Nov. 28, 2020. Grace Gabutan, 34, businesswoman, Gabutan Compound, Brgy. Guadalupe, Cebu City. The victim was parking her car in the garage when she was shot dead by unidentified triggerman. The victim’s sister was once the wife of a “drug lord” who is jailed in Cebu City. The son (from another relationship) of the “drug lord” was arrested in a drug bust in 2019.

Nov. 29 3AM. Dennis Young, 45, Tres de Abril, Brgy. San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City. The victim was beaten to death.

Nov. 30, 11AM. Engr. Ponciano Villamil, 63, barangay councilor, land developer and real estate broker, Brgy. Kinasang-an, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by a lone gunman at So. Adelfa, Brgy. Kinasang-an.

October 5, 11PM. Jimboy Ponce , 22, x-ray machine operator of Cebu Port Authority, residence at Labangon, Cebu City. The victim was robbed and shot dead at A. Lopez Street, Brgy. Calamba, Cebu City, on his way home from work.

October 6. The body of Elmer Cañeda Enanoria, construction worker, Brgy. Bulacao, Cebu City, and the bodies of three unidentified men were found in two shallow graves in So. Bago, Brgy. Cogon, Compostela. Enanoria reportedly spent a year in Naga City Jail for a drug case . He was released in May.

October 7, 2020. Geronimo Tanaid, 40. The victim was sitting nearby his home when an unidentified suspect arrived and shot him in the head, killing him.

October 10, 9AM. Atty. James Joseph Gupana, 69, was wounded by suspects riding in tandem who opened fire on him in Lapu Lapu City.

October 10, 9AM. Josephus “Joseph” Castillo Caraca , 21, Brgy. Tungkop, Minglanilla. The victim was shot dead by unidentified suspect. He was reportedly arrested the previous month in connection with a physical injuries case.

October 11. Ruben Gingoyon , 27, farmer, Brgy. Luhod, Barili. The victim was stabbed to death by two brothers who are also farmers.

October 12, 2020. Archie Royo Zamora, 28, A. Lopez Street, Cebu City. The body of the victim was found at So. Manuto, Brgy. Manipis, Talisay City when personnel of DPWH were cleaning the area. The victim was reportedly picked up (or kidnapped) on October 8 by four unidentified persons using a black vehicle. Zamora was arrested for illegal drugs in 2018 and released in March 2020 due to probation.

October 15, 2020. Jonathan Rosario Suico, 65, former OFW. The victim was found stabbed to death at this house in Brgy. Pondol, Balamban. The victim had apparently been robbed.

October 20, 1PM. Darwin Pinalagao, 32, Zone Kalabasa, Brgy. Paknaan, Mandaue City. The victim was walking in Zone Ubi when shot dead. The police reported arresting a suspect on October 23.

October 24. The body of a woman, without head, hands and feet was found in a garbage bag near a creek in Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. On October 31, a head was found in Brgy. Looc, Mandaue City.

October 26, 2020, 8PM. Kenneth Roize Gidalgo, 21. The victim who was out in a plea bargain agreement (drugs) was shot dead by unidentified suspect while waiting for a ride at Brgy. Madridejos, Alegria.

October 26, 10PM. Lourdes Rebonsa, 40, So. Ibabao, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City (recently transferred from Brgy. Basak Pardo, Cebu City). Unidentified suspects entered the victim’s house at shot her in the head, killing her. The police said the victim had previously been arrested for illegal drugs.

October 30, 2020. Ernesto Gonzales, 34, security guard of a private school. The victim was shot dead while he was taking dinner at an eatery at So. Alumnos Riverside, Brgy. Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City. A bystander was wounded. The suspect was reportedly identified by an eye witness.

Sep. 9, 2020, around 8PM. Kent “Bongbong” Zerna Divinagracia, 45, former vice mayor, Pamplona. The victim was shot dead while still inside his car by riding in tandem as he arrived home during an unscheduled brownout.

Sep. 15, evening. Albert Lagrama, 25, employee at tocino restaurant in Brgy. Palinpinon, Valencia, native of Siaton. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in front of the restaurant where he was working.

Oct. 11, 2020. Reymond Albarasin Fat, CAFGU, Brgy. Imelda, Guihulngan City. The victim was ambushed by suspected members of the New People’s Army at Brgy. Hinakpan, Guihulngan City.

Oct. 11. Samson Doong, 61, habalhabal driver, Siaton. The victim was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Brgy. Pitogo, Siaton.

Oct. 11. Anthony Elnar, 33, Bayawan City. The victim was shot dead at Brgy. Maninihon, Bayawan City.

Oct. 12, 2020, 2PM. Roger Alibiado, 40, Philippine Navy reservist, Casala-an, Siaton. The victim was ambushed and murdered by four unidentified suspects riding two separate motorcycles at Brgy. Poblacion, Siaton.

Oct. 21. Jovita Tamayo, 59, job order employee at Bais City LGU (working as utility worker at Tagpo Elementary School). The victim was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside her home in So. Panciao, Brgy. Tagpo, Bais City. Her body was found the following morning.

Nov. 16, 2020 – 10:20PM. Alfred Moncopa Cordova, 41, Brgy. Poblacion, Dumaguete City was shot dead by riding in tandem in Brgy. Tinago, Dumaguete City. The victim sustained 10 gunshot wounds.

Nov. 17, 2020. A 28-year old man was wounded by gunmen riding in tandem while he was digging a hole for an electric post near the barangay hall in Brgy. Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City.

Nov. 25, 2020 – 5:30PM. Joey Esteconing Carugda, 47, a nephew of the mayor, Brgy. Polopantao, Jimalalud, was shot dead by riding in tandem along the national highway in Brgy. Polopantao. The victim had reportedly filed a complaint against a local policeman.

Dec. 1: Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo replaces Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro as chief of Police Regional Office 7.

Dec. 5. Jerson Pabayos, 29, and Manilyn Gomez, 20, live-in partners staying at Brgy. Buntis, Bacong. The lifeless bodies of the victims were found near their house in the morning of December 5. The bodies bore multiple stab wounds.

Dec. 6 (Sunday). Patrick Manuel Romero, 31, was shot dead by riding in tandem along a busy street in Bais City.

Dec. 15 – 5:20PM. Dr. Mary Rose Genisan Sancelan, chief, Guihulngan City Health Office, and Edwin Sancelan, employee of Guihulngan City Government. The husband and wife were ambushed on their way home from City Hall. Dr. Sancelan had been linked to the NPA, her name appearing on top of a ‘list’ of alleged NPA supporters and members that had circulated in Guihulngan City for the past few years. Dr. Sancelan was Incident Commander of the LGU Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Dec. 15 – 5:30PM. Saeler “Israel” Alsong, 50, Brgy. Calamba, Guihulngan City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem. He was reportedly the father of a young man who escaped attempted murder in Ayungon on February 9, 2019.

Dec. 16. The dead body of Rene Boy Maran Lagrama, 22, was found at Brgy. Mayabon, Zamboanguita. The head had gunshot wounds, the arms had been tied with a rope on his back. Local sources claim that the victim was a thief.

Sep. 1, 2020. Sergio Villapania was shot dead by his neighbor, a retired police officer, at Brgy. Poblacion, Sibonga.

Sep. 4, 2020, 8PM. Vicente Jorolan , 63, farmer, Brgy. Basak, Badian, had his head nearly cut off by a 49-year old fisherman .

Sep. 6. Peter Danuhan, 55, laborer, Brgy. Victoria, San Remigio, was hacked to death by two brothers.

Sep. 5, 11PM. Ronie Lawas, 25, habalhabal driver, was shot to death by a man wanted for homicide. This happened at Brgy. Tubod, Minglanilla.

Sep. 8, 2020. The body of Norlito Villasan was found early in the morning by his neighbors in Sibonga. He had a big wound at the back of his head.

Sep. 10, 2020, 10:20AM. Ruben Requinto Quieta, 48, an Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) policeman, and his son Gavin Quieta, 19, So. Villa Elena, Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City. The two men were onboard their car when ambushed by four suspects at So. Mohon in Tisa. The father was killed on the spot while the son died at the hospital. Ruben Quieta was reportedly transferred from Police Regional Office 7 to a region in Luzon in July 2016 when more than 20 police officers from Cebu were transferred to Luzon and Mindanao. At least three of these police officers have been liquidated during visits to Cebu.

Sep. 10, 2PM. Albert Hermosisima , 27, So. Tunga, Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in Brgy. Tangke. He had reportedly been arrested in a drug raid on May 4, 2018.

Sep. 11, 2AM. Kylle Clifford Soon, 20, Purok 4, Brgy. Tugbongan, Consolacion. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Purok 5, Tugbongan.

Sep. 14, 2020, 6PM. Juvilyn Luminkit Quirante, 43, resident of Wireless, Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City, native of City of Tangub, Province of Misamis Occidental. The victim who had just been released from Mandaue City Jail after posting bail, was walking with his live-in partner when shot dead by suspects riding in a car. Quirante was one of five men arrested at the Bogo City wharf on October 20 2019 after the J Centre Mall armed robbery on October 19. Aside from the five arrested, four others were killed in the shootout with the police at the wharf. All nine – including Quirante – plus four others were charged with Robbery in Band a few days later (Banat News, October 24, 2019).

Sep. 15, around 3PM. Edmund “Bernie” Junco, 65, retired police officer, Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. The victim was driving his car with his wife in Brgy. Talamban when he was shot and killed by riding in tandem.

Sep. 18, 8PM. Engr. Roberto Llanillo, 53, and his son Malbert Llanillo, 26, were shot dead by Edwin Ferguson, 32, who was later shot dead by the responding police. A German national was shot too and in critical condition as of September 19. All four men were staying at the same apartment building in So. Kintolimbo, Brgy. Calajo-an, Minglanilla. Malbert and Edwin appear to have had an argument. When Engr. Llanillo tried to pacify them he was shot dead on the spot. The son and the German were shot when they tried to help the engineer.

Sep. 19, 2020, past 7PM. Zandro “Sanny” Augusto, councilor of Brgy. Mactan, Lapu Lapu City, businessman. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in front of his pawnshop in Brgy. Poblacion, Lapu Lapu City.

Sep. 19, 10PM. A 42-year old farmer was shot and wounded by an unidentified suspect at Brgy. Kahumayan, Danao City.

Sep. 19, 2020 (night time). Joseph “Jojo” Payot, 47, laborer at the Carbon Public Market (Cebu City), from Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. The victim was going to sleep at the market when he was shot by riding in tandem. He died later at the hospital.

Sep. 20, 9PM or later. Rogelio Tupas, 60, carpenter, and Virginia Tupas, 55, fish vendor, So. Saging, Brgy. Lawaan 2, Talisay City. Two unidentified suspects entered the couple’s house and shot them dead.

Sep. 22, 2020, 5AM. Dionesio Otapil, So. Lingatong, Brgy. Vito, Balamban, was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Lacdon, Brgy. Prenza, Balamban. The victim’s 26-year old cousin was wounded. The victim was reportedly a faith healer.

Sep. 26, 1PM. Maria Victoria Lingal, 41, widow, store owner, Brgy. Tayud, Liloan. The victim had just arrived home when two unidentified persons riding separate motorcycles arrived and shot her dead.

Violent crime in Negros Oriental, June-August 2020

Notes: 1) On May 28, 2020, P/Col. Arnel Banzon replaced P/Col. Julian Entoma as director of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO). 2) Negros Oriental was on General Community Quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic until June 30. Effective July 1 the status was changed to Modified General Community Quarantine.

June 15, morning. Rowena Laque Bangcat , 49, businesswoman, Baptist Road, Brgy. Mangnao, Dumaguete City. The victim and her husband were near their home, riding their motorcycle, when suspects riding in tandem opened fire and shot her in the head and the neck.

June 16, 9:30PM. Harrison “Harry” Kalubiran Gonzales, 52, barangay chairman, Barangay 1-Tinago, Dumaguete City. The victim was on duty at the barangay outpost when a man riding motorcycle shot him dead. The killer was accompanied by four other persons riding separate motorcycles.

June 23. Sherwin Gabo, a volunteer member of Siaton Rescue Team, Siaton. The victim was riding his motorcycle was shot dead by riding in tandem at Barangay 2, Siaton.

June 24. Feliciano Canafuego Trosa, 56, barangay councilor, Brgy. Nagbinlod, Sta. Catalina. The victim was riding his motorcycle on his way home when a man came out from an abandoned house and shot him dead.

July 9, 11:30PM. Police Staff Sergeant (PSSgt.) Bobster Guillarawan, First Provincial Mobile Force Company, Brgy. Napacao, Siaton, was shot dead by riding in tandem at Brgy. 1, Siaton. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

July 21, 2:50PM. Jimmer (“Jimer” or “Jemer”) Fundador and Romeo “Omic” Dungo-an, 43, swine traders from Brgy. Pacuan, La Libertad. The victims were shot dead in an ambush at Sitio Mandi-e, Brgy. Magsaysay, Guihulngan City. They went to the area to buy swine. The perpetrators used high powered firearms. On July 21, 2017, Guihulngan City Chief of Police Supt. Arnel Arpon, five of his men and one civilian were killed in an ambush by the New People’s Army at the same place.

July 22, 10:40AM. Joel Daza, 51, tricycle driver, Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City. The victim was flagged down and then shot dead by two unidentified suspects at Sitio Bato, Brgy. Malusay, Guihulngan City.

July 22. Ronald Balsimo, 60, former barangay tanod, So. Kabangahan, Brgy. Bago, Tayasan, was shot in the stomach but in stable condition as of July 23.

July 24. Eldeson “Eldeth” Marturillas , So. Compound, Brgy. Luz, Guihulngan City, was driving his motorcycle when shot dead by unidentified suspects at So. Proper, Brgy. Luz, Guihulngan City.

July 25. Alex Lim, a job order employee of the Guihulngan City Local Government, was snot dead by riding in tandem at So. Looc, Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City.

Aug. 8, 2020. A shooting incident was reported in Brgy. Nagbalaye, Sta. Catalina. The victim was watching a game of billiard when he was shot and wounded by three suspects.

Violent crime in Cebu, June – August 2020

June 1, 2020, 1PM. Ryan Fuentes Daño, 34, job order employee of the Lapu-Lapu City government, was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Coles, Brgy. Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City. The victim was assisting a lineman with electric installations in the street when he was shot dead.

June 1, 2020, 3PM. Bernardo Ramirez, 37, tricycle driver, So. Taytayan, Brgy. Buhisan, Cebu City. The victim was sitting on a bench in front of his house when four suspects on two motorcycles (riding in tandem) arrived and shot him dead.

June 2, 2020, 7:30PM. Leo Padillo Duhig, 18 (16 according to some reports), So. Casio, Brgy. Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City. The victim was walking along the street when shot dead by riding in tandem.

June 3, 2020, 5-6AM. Edgar Daño Espinosa, 43, fish vendor, Brgy. Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City. The victim was riding his bicycle bringing fish when he was shot dead by riding in tandem. His brother (a bystander according to one report) was hit in the leg.

June 8, 2020. Ricky Dejos was shot dead by unidentified suspect or suspects at Brgy. Tubod, Minglanilla.

June 18, 9PM. Edison Enodio Calago, 41, ex-convict, Brgy. Lamac, Consolacion. The victim was at home with his family when four suspects arrived, barged into the house and shot him dead. The victim reportedly had been arrested for possession of illegal firearms and illegal drugs in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and posted bail.

June 23. The body of 67-year old Inorenciana Castro was discovered by the neighbors near her pig pen at Brgy. Danasan, Danao City, early in the morning of June 24. The body had gunshot wounds. The police believed it was a robbery.

July 3. Alejandro Manriquez, Brgy. Tabon, Dalaguete, released from jail in May 2020 after having served 13 years. The victim was shot at BrGy. Sto. Niño, Dalaguete and found the following day, still alive. However, he was not brought to the hospital and expired.

July 7. Alejandro Umpad, 55, was hacked to death in Barili by a 60-year old neighbor who later surrendered.

July 15, 2020, 6AM. Juanito “Jan-Jan” Rabadon Bontilao, 31, Brgy. Pung-ol Sibugay, Cebu City, mechanic. The victim was shot dead while traversing So. Upper Tanay, Brgy. Pulangbato, Cebu City. He was either salvaged or a victim of hold-up robbery.

July 22, 2020, around 6PM. Joseph Yong Ygonia , 25, So. Lansones, Brgy. Jaclopan, Talisay City, was found shot dead at said sitio morning of July 23.

July 23, 2020, 8PM. Arnel dela Peña, 32, and Alouie Rico Alimorin , 29, Brgy. Danasan 2, Danao City. The two neighbors went out to buy tuba when they were shot dead by two unidentified suspects.

July 25 (Saturday), 5PM. Ryan Fritz Menchavez, 31, game fowl breeder, Luray 1, Brgy. Poblacion, Toledo City. The victim was riding a motorcycle on his way home from his game farm when shot dead by two men who rode an SUV. The violent attack happened at Brgy. Cabitoonan, Toledo City.

July 26, 2020, around 1AM. Rogelio Patatag , 55, security guard of gasoline station, Naga City. The victim was found dead at 6:30 in the morning with a bullet wound in his head. Apparently, the gasoline station at Brgy. Tuyan, Naga City, had been robbed during the night and the victim shot dead. About P581,000 representing the earnings of the gasoline station for 10 days had been taken from the vault.

July 26, 2020. Renato Aninon , 52, was stabbed to death and his 29-year old son wounded, outside a convenience store in Brgy. Binaliw, Cebu City. The police suspect jealousy as the motive.

July 29, 2020, 7PM. Rolando Deloso, 51, So. Sambag 1, Brgy. Tejero, Cebu City. The victim was on his way home when shot dead by unidentified suspect. The victim had – said the police – been in prison for drugs.

July 29, evening. Eduardo Lopernes, 31, So. Lawis, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by unidentified suspect when he was walking going to his neighbor’s house.

Aug. 1, 2020, 5PM. Joseph Gaviola, 49, was shot to death by riding in tandem at Brgy. Pulpogan, Consolacion. The victim was said to have been involved in drugs before, according to the police.

Aug. 5, 2020.Jomar Palco, 30, an ex-convict, So. Kabangkalan, Brgy. Bulacao, Cebu City. The victim was walking along Peace Valley, Bulacao, when a man walked up to him and shot him dead.

Aug. 15 (Saturday), around 4:30AM. Carlito Peralta Abatayo, 42, Brgy. Poblacion, Toledo City. The victim was shot dead at his home by unknown suspect.

Aug. 16, 2020. Cecilio Paraiso , 55, was walking in Brgy. Cuanos, Minglanilla, when he was shot dead.

Aug. 17, 2020. Erwin Costas, 40, a pastor of Iglesia sa Diyos Espírito Santo, was found dead at his house in Brgy. Mercedes, Poro. The victim had been stabbed to death.

Aug. 18, 2020. Marcelo Milan, 51, Brgy. Maloray, Dalaguete, was shot dead inside his kitchen. The victim had reportedly served three years in jail for murder.

Aug. 24, 2020. Alan Gatab was shot dead inside his house in Brgy. Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

Aug. 26, 2020, 7PM. Niel Clarin Patigas , 27, habalhabal driver, Brgy. Luca, Balamban, and Charito Casas, farmer, Brgy. Ginatilan, Balamban. The two men were shot dead by unknown suspect(s) at So. Mahabog, Brgy. Cabadiangan, Balamban. They had just left the house of the barangay secretary.

Aug. 28, 2020. The body of a young man was found near the river in So. Cogon, Brgy. Maslog, Danao City.

Aug. 28, 2020, 11AM. Roel Baculi Labajo, 37, Sitio Cogon, Barangay San Vicente, Liloan. The victim and his wife were on their way home riding the couple’s motorcycle when he shot dead by suspects riding in tandem.

Aug. 31, 2020, past 7PM. A 51-year old employee of the City of Naga Market Department was shot and wounded as he alighted from a multi cab in Brgy. Tinaan, City of Naga. The victim was involved in inspecting the market and going after illegal vendors. The victim has recovered.

April 9, 6PM. Belarmino Geron Isolana, 56, close-in security of the Guihulngan City Vice Mayor, Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City. Shot dead by riding in tandem while walking along the national highway in Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City. The victim was a drug surrenderer (November 17, 2016).

April 10, 7:45PM. Rito Horolan Acabo, 45, owner of bakery business (Guihulngan City and La Libertad). The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Brgy. McKinley, Guihulngan City. Acabo’s 18-year old son was wounded. The victim was a drug surrenderer (December 15, 2016).

April 15, afternoon. Leovin Soreño Dela Torre, 40. Daro, Dumaguete City. The victim was shot dead by two unidentified men at his house. He suffered 27 gunshot wounds. He had been involved in a shooting incident some years ago.

April 22, late morning. Zelsun Blue “Coco” K. Behag, a native of Vallehermoso but currently residing in Guihulngan City. The victim was riding her motorcycle at So. Agay-ayan, Brgy. Bulado, Guihulngan City, when she was shot dead by riding in tandem. Her former live-in partner (in San Carlos City) had been arrested for drugs but Behag’s sister said that the victim had cut ties with him and not involved in drug business.

April 23, 9:40AM. Patrick Deogenes Cabristante Romero, 54, Brgy. 1, Bais City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Juan Luna Street, Brgy. 1, Bais City. The police said he was a police asset (informant) and a former drug personality who surrendered in 2017.

April 23, 11PM. Ryan Jay Beltran, 24, Brgy. Taclobo, Dumaguete City. The victim was already asleep when an unidentified person standing outside the victim’s house, shot him dead.

April 24, morning. The dead bodies of Joemar Rebitoy Castor, 33, and Arnel Villegas, 41, both of Purok Orchids, Brgy Calindagan, Dumaguete City, were found, half-naked, only wearing cargo shorts, at the roadside in Brgy. Mayabon, Zamboanguita. The two men had been reported missing by their relatives on April 22. The cause of death has not been established as of April 27.

April 27, 9:30AM. Pedro Ybañez Tecson, 44, farmer, Brgy. San José, Bayawan City. The victim was shot dead by another farmer due to a personal grudge.

May 5, 8:45PM. Cornelio Pepino, 48, radio broadcaster known as Rex Cornelia, Brgy. Blood-Boloc, Sibulan. The victim was on his way home together with his wife after hosting his radio program on Original Energy FM in Dumaguete City when he was waylaid by riding in tandem at Brgy. Daro, Dumaguete City. May 13 update: the car believed to have been used to tail the victim before the killing and used by the killer before he transferred to a motorcycle was recovered. It is owned by the provincial government . Update (May 27): a firearm found at the house if Rodel Barillo (shot dead by riding in tandem on May 12, see below) was used to murder Pepino, the police reported on May 27.

May 8, 7:25AM. Joseph “Jorom” Cacho Romano, 48, Brgy. Biñohon, Bais City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem along Juan Luna Street, Brgy. 2, Bais City. The victim was driving a motorcycle. His back rider was wounded.

May 8, afternoon. Franie Genandoy Avanceña, 56, Brgy. Basak, Guihulngan City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at a waiting shed in Brgy. Basak, Guihulngan City. He was a drug surrenderer in July 2016 but arrested in November 2018 for selling drugs. The victim was out on bail.

May 10, 6:30PM. Feliciano Blanco Mahinay, Jr., 48, former CAFGU, So. Punong, Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan City. The victim was shot dead in front of his house by unidentified suspects.

May 10, 7:15PM. Dante Jimena , 44, jobless, So. Bulacan, Brgy. T. Hill, Guihulngan City. The victim was preparing food inside his house when he shot dead by unidentified suspect.

May 12, 8:20AM. Rodel Pamor Barillo, 37, co-owner of a security agency, Brgy. Kagawasan, Guihulngan City. The victim was taking breakfast with his brother at an eatery in Plaridel Street, Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City, when suspects riding in tandem arrived and shot him dead. Update: a warrant of arrest in connection with the May 5 murder of Cornelio Pepino was to have been served on the victim.

May 13, 5:30PM. Elpedio Julwar dela Cerna Mahinay , 65, kagawad and former barangay chairman, So. Maambog, Brgy. Planas, Guihulngan City. The victim was tending to his cow at Upper Muog, Planas, when approached by unidentified suspects – suspected members of the New People’s Army – and shot dead.

May 20. Joseph Redocto Bitonga, 41, farmer, So. Budlasan, Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan City, was shot dead by two unidentified suspects In front of his house. The killing was reported at 7:45PM (Budlasan is far from the city proper).

May 20, 5:40PM. Roberto Alejo Silva, Upper Pancil, Brgy. Looc, Sibulan. The victim who was out of prison on probation in connection with a drug case was shot dead by three suspects .

May 26, 8PM. A 50-year old woman was shot and wounded by an unidentified assailant at Purok 2, Brgy. Malabugas, Bayawan City. The victim was shot in the cheek. She was brought to the hospital for medical treatment.

May 26, 8:45PM. Edward Uy, 22, Purok Pag-asa, Brgy. Banilad, Dumaguete City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Purok Pag-asa.

May 27, 4PM. Reynold “Junjun” Armentano Paquito, 34, Shin Village, So. Campaclan, Brgy. Poblacion, Sibulan, was sitting in front of his home with his 6-month old son when four suspects arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire. Paquito was killed while the infant was hit in the leg.

May 29, past 6PM. Basiledes Vergara Ledon , 59, public school teacher, Larena Street, Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City. The victim was shot dead in Larena Street by bonnet-wearing assailants riding in tandem.

April 2, dawn. Mark Padin (survived), Bangbang, Cordova. The victim was attacked at his house by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend who shot him in the head. The victim managed to go to the barangay hall and ask for help.

April 2, 7PM. Renato Sotto Evangelista, 26, So. Latasan, Brgy. Labogon, Mandaue City, and Dexter Lague Ronamo, 29, Loboc, Bohol, were found shot dead at Brgy. Alambijud, Argao. Evangelista had previously been arrested for drugs and was out on plea bargaining. The two men were staying with relatives at Alambijud.

April 2, 7PM. Zosimo Callora, 30, a barangay tanod of Brgy. Labogon, Mandaue City, was shot and wounded by a suspect whom he pursued at So. Lapyahan together with the police.

April 3, 4AM. A 19-year old man was shot dead by a friend at Campo Drive, Brgy. Inayawan, Cebu City, because of a disagreement over a card game.

April 4, 7PM. Reynaldo Casipong Gaviola, 45, Brgy. Pulpogan, Consolacion. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem along the highway in Brgy. Poblacion Occidental, Consolacion. The victim had been released on plea bargain in December 2019.

April 6, 1PM. Jaymar Carpentero, 27, factory worker, So. Suba Masulog, Basak, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was mixing milk for his young child in front of his house when he was shot dead by unidentified gunman who had a motorcycle with driver waiting,

April 8, early morning. Aldrin Larasan, 22, security guard, So. Kadasig, Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City, had just returned home from duty when he was shot and wounded by an unidentified gunman .

April 8. Fernando Santa Ana, 29, farmer, Brgy. Cang-actol, Dumanjug, sustained 12 stab wounds and reported to be in critical condition. The attacker was his neighbor who was arrested in the evening.

April 8. Bernard “Bina” Canumay, Brgy. Bato, Toledo City. The victim was killed on the spot after having been shot by what appears to be a close relative. The victim was a father of nine children, the youngest not yet two months old.

April 9 (Maundy Thursday), 6:45AM. Rosinda Pantonial, 43, Maguikay, Mandaue City, was home having a video call with her husband when an unidentified man shot and wounded her.

April 10 (Good Friday) afternoon. Erwin Millosa, 37, Brgy. Pulangbato, Cebu City, was shot and killed near his house. The suspect, a “friend” of the victim, was arrested by the police.

April 11 (Black Saturday), 5AM. Bodies of two men whose throats have been cut with wire are found in a ravine in So. Bogo, Campo 4, Talisay City. One is later identified as Alvin Medillo, 32, truck helper, so. Silangan 2, Brgy. Tejero, Cebu City. The other victim is identified as Anicito Enriquez, truck driver, of Getafe, Bohol. Residents at So. Bogo say a vehicle arrived in the area around 9:30PM and dumped the bodies.

April 11, 6PM. Lemjon Bansalan Sarcena, construction worker, was shot and wounded by a tanod at Brgy. Tubod, Sibonga. The suspect surrendered.

April 12 (Easter Sunday). Mae Hyacinth Abellana Quista, 27, Brgy. Pasil, Cebu City. The victim who was pregnant died after having been shot twice in the head by a certain Jerel Paca Dela Torre while she was sitting outside her house. The police arrested the suspect at his house, also in Pasil. According to the police, the brothers of the victim are in prison due to drug related cases.

April 19, 1:30AM. Eric Calzada, 42, a suspected drug pusher, was shot dead inside his home at Brgy. Dongoan, Danao City. The gunmen broke into the house, murdered Calzada, and left on their motorcycle.

April 23. Ronilo “Negro” Baguio, 47, So. Ponce, Brgy. Carreta, Cebu City. The victim was watching TV when he was shot. His condition was reported to be critical. The police have arrested the suspect.

April 26, 4AM. Rufina Allawan, 72, Purok 3, Brgy. Cansalonoy, Ronda. The victim was killed by her own 38-year old daughter.

April 28. P/Msgt. Douglas Maravillas , Asturias, Provincial Mobile Force Company. Maravillas was shot and wounded by an unidentified person during a police intelligence operation against a marijuana plantation in Brgy. Panamihan, Toledo City. Update: the suspects were arrested on May 2.

April 28. Roger Adolfo, 9, So. Kumon, Brgy. Bacayan, Cebu City. The victim was beaten with a broom by his stepfather. The beating only stopped when the boy fainted. He died at the hospital.

May 1. Jalzie Anodin, 27, construction worker, was stabbed to death in Brgy. Catarman, Liloan by a 29-year old drug addict who accused the victim of being a police asset.

May 3, 7PM. Rogelio Buhawi, So. Lub-ang, Brgy. Casuntingan, Mandaue City. The victim was shot and wounded by his neighbor.

May 4. Christopher Mepieza Albo , 41, was shot dead after having entered the house of Victoriano Alegado, 45, and stabbed the latter’s live-in-partner and a visitor in the head and abdomen, respectively. Alegado got his gun and shot Albo to death.

May 7. Anelita Andoque was killed by her own 25-year old son, a mentally unstable former seaman at their home in Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City. Mother and son had a quarrel about the household quarantine pass when the son slit the throat of his mother, killing her.

May 8, past 3PM. Robert Oliveros, 24, So. All Seasons 1, Brgy. Cogon Pardo, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by Francisco and Geric Gabuya of So. Tayud, Brgy. Basak Pardo, according to eye witnesses, at So. All Seasons 3. The victim had reportedly threatened volunteer frontliners earlier. The police said that both victim and suspects were involved in drugs.

May 9. A 26-year old mother who was bathing her child was attacked and stabbed numerous times with a kitchen knife by her neighbor Edelberto Condeno, 52, at Brgy. Linao, Daanbantayan. Condeno then stabbed himself to death. His wife told the police that her husband had suffered a nervous breakdown. The victim survived the attack.

May 11, around 2:15AM. Ardel “Ading” Mariquit, 28, Brgy. Pung-ol Sibugay, Cebu City. The victim was found dead, shot in the head, at So. Badjawan, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City.

May 12. Froilan Indig Golosino , 33, farmer, Brgy. Patong, Badian. The victim was found dead at a mountainous area of the barangay. His head had been crushed with rocks.

May 12. Christian Gatdula, a tricycle driver, was shot and wounded at Brgy. Tinaan, City of Naga. The suspect was arrested with an unidentified accomplice still at large.

May 13. Siegfred Mabia was killed when Noren Castro, 22, tried to shoot a 16-year old boy with whom he had a quarrel. The bullet went through the shoulder of the 16-year old and fatally hit Mabia. The incident happened at Brgy. Ermita, Cebu City.

May 16, night. Mark Cabrera Intrina, 16, was stabbed to death by his own father who was drunk. The latter also stabbed and wounded the neighbors. This happened at So. Lower, Brgy. Bugho, Moalboal.

May 18, 6AM. Ronaldo Villabas, fisherman, was shot dead in Brgy. Mahawak, Medellin. The suspect surrendered himself and the firearm to authorities.

May 18. John Muaña of So. Naba, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City, was shot dead by unidentified suspect(s) at Puntod Alaska, Brgy. Mambaling. The victim had reportedly attacked Jopith Conel, an ECQ volunteer, at Mambaling, who “denied him entry when he (Muaña) allegedly wanted to buy shabu on May 16,” according to the police (Sun Star Cebu, May 19, 2020).

May 19. Felix Amper, 53, farmer, was shot dead at So. Malbog, Brgy. Salug, Dalaguete. The 39-year old suspect, also a farmer and neighbor of the victim, was arrested. Victim and suspect had a personal conflict.

May 22, 6PM. Reymond Regis, a 43-year old ex-convict, a resident of So. Macarosa, Brgy. Tejero, Cebu City, was shot in the head and killed by an unidentified suspect at So. Macarosa, Brgy. Tejero. The victim’s case involved drugs.

May 22, 10PM. Randy Aguirre, 41, Brgy. Guadalupe, Cebu City. The victim was stabbed to death by a 35-year old suspect whom he (the victim) owed P1,200 and who tried to collect the debt.

May 23, 10:45PM. Philip Warren Abatayo , 31, ex-convict, Purok Lomboy, so. Napo, Brgy. Guindaruhan, Minglanilla. Three bonnet-wearing men barged into the victim’s house, dragged him outside and shot him in the head. The victim expired at the hospital at 5 o’clock in the morning. He was released from jail March 5 this year due to plea bargain. He served time for a drug case.

May 24, 1AM. Felomino “Minoy” Acuña, parish maintenance carpenter, was shot dead by the parish security guard inside the church compound in Carcar City. The two men had a conflict.

May 25, shortly past midnight. Only known as “Agu” in So. Lawis, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City, this 34-year old ECQ volunteer was beaten to death by three suspects who barged into his residence. The victim was not from the place and had no relatives there.

May 26, 2AM. Rey Vincent Suize, 24, Brgy. Bitoon, Dumanjug, was stabbed to death in his home by his own father. Cause? An intoxicated father got mad at his son for waking him up. The suspect has been arrested and is facing parricide charge.

May 26, 4PM. Juanito Flores Ole, 35, So. Caputatan, Brgy. Guinacot, Danao City, served time in New Bilibid Prison for drug case. The victim was shot dead by two unidentified persons at Oliver Street, Brgy. Poblacion, Danao City.

May 27, 8:40AM. Benedicto Sumagang, security agency supervisor and retired policeman, was shot dead by one of the agency’s security guards while a female security guard was shot and wounded. The suspect then took his own life. The incident happened at the office of the security agency at A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City.

May 28, morning. A man known only as Ethyl was shot dead while sleeping by an unidentified killer at Brgy. Sto. Niño, Cebu City. A similar killing happened again in the evening.

May 28, 2:35PM. Brazilio Borinaga, Retired Police Staff Sgt., Camp Marina, Brgy. Kalunasan, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead in front of his house. The unidentified gunman shot the victim in the head. Update (May 29): Cebu City Police Office forms Special Investigation Task Force. Also, they say they received reports that the victim was involved in drugs.

May 28, around 4PM. Jesserel Farra, 22, sales lady/cashier at a bake shop in Brgy. Santa Cruz-Santo Niño, Balamban, was shot dead by a customer. The customer got angry when asked to keep his place in the line and observe physical distancing. He went home, got his caliber .45 and went back to the store and shot dead Ms. Farra. The suspect has been arrested.

May 28, past 10PM. A man known only as Candle Light, about 30 years old, a native of Carcar City and selling candles at the St. Niño Basilica, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman. The victim was sleeping in his small hut at So. Lutaw-Lutaw, Brgy. Sto. Niño, Cebu City, when the killer walked up to him and shot him four times. A motorcycle then picked up the killer. A similar killing happened in the same barangay in the morning (see above).

May 29. Thelma Leonor Patalinghug, 73, Brgy. Candaguit, Sibonga, was found dead in her house on May 30. She had been stabbed. Update: a suspect has been arrested.

May 30, 5PM. Leonides Norte, 47, Asturias, was stabbed dead by his friend. They had been attending a fiesta celebration. The murder weapon was the knife used to slice the lechon. The suspect has been arrested.

May 30, 5PM. James Tabasa , 38, was walking down the road when shot and wounded at Brgy. Pakigne, Minglanilla. The suspect is still at large.

May 31, 1AM. Richard Moreno, 37, was shot dead by an unidentified suspect at Tabura Street, Poblacion, Brgy. Pardo, Cebu City.

May 31, 6:30PM. Basilio Putian, Jr., 52, was stabbed to death by his neighbors at Brgy. Malabago, Moalboal. The suspects surrendered.
