Violent crime that happened in Cebu in February 2019

  1. February 1 (Friday) – 6AM Judy Lozano, 39, truck driver, Sitio Kalubihan, Brgy. Pajac, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Sitio Abuno, Brgy. Pajac.
  2. February 1 – just before midnight. Allan Ouano, 25, Mandaue City. The victim, riding his motorcycle along El Filibusterismo Street in Brgy. Ermita, Cebu City, was shot dead by unidentified killer. The police said that personnel of Cebu City Medical Center found a “medium pack” of shabu in the victim’s pocket.
  3. February 5 – 10:50AM. Manny Alcaraz, 45, a member of R7 Unified Marshalls of Minglanilla Police Station, a Cebu City resident but temporarily residing at Brgy. Linao, Minglanilla. The victim was shot dead near his home at So. Lower Lipata, Brgy. Linao, while walking.

4. February 5 – 10PM. Adrian Bate Vergara, habal habal driver, So. Kalubihan, Brgy. Jogobiao, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in Poblacion Oriental.

5. February 8 – Brothers Carmelito (60), Conrado (65) and Eufronio Garces were hacked to death by their neighbor, an ex-convict, at So. San Isidro, Brgy. Perrelos, Carcar City. The suspect went to the brothers’ house and attacked them with a sickle.

6. February 12 – Unknown reported as ‘drug pusher’. Dead body found in Brgy. Pooc, Talisay City.

7. February 17 (Sunday) – afternoon Joselito Junio, 26, from Samar but had recently relocated to Brgy. Pit-os, Cebu City. The victim was ambushed by four men at Brgy. Pit-os.

8. February 18 – Unidentified body found at So. Mananga, Brgy. Tabunok, Talisay City

9. February 20 – 3:20PM Marv John “Marchan” Soco, 34, Brgy. Looc, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Brgy. Looc. He had been arrested on February 12 during a police buy bust operation where Kent Gabiana was killed. Soco had posted bail.

10. February 20 – John Pearlnel Dinoro, 48, Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, businessman involved in sand-gravel business, a former driver and bodyguard of former senator, congressman and Toledo City mayor John Osmeña. Dinoro SURVIVED an ambush in Mandaue City.

11. February 21 – 12:15AM Clark Tejero Cañadora, 35, habal habal driver, Purok Tundan, Brgy. Basak, Mandaue City. The killers barged into the victim’s house and shot him dead while he was sleeping.

12. February 22 – 4AM Gabby Sabalones Gabisan, 41, Brgy. San Roque, Talisay City, and Mar Bacus Kernaez, 37, Brgy. Lagtang, Talisay City. The two victims were found shot dead at Sitio Ibabaw, Brgy. Maghaway, Talisay City.

13. February 22 – Jeremias Miñoza Herbieto, 52, a former policeman; Adrian Manlisi Cabunelas, 30, Pulpugan 2, Consolacion; Wilmer Lawas, Langosig, Danao City; and Joel Cabardo, recently released from Davao Penal Colony. The four were traveling through Brgy. Danlag, Consolacion when they were attacked by four persons on two motorcycles. Herbieto’s wife was the lone survivor. According to the police, Herbieto was the target. Cabunelas, however, was in the local drug watch list, the police disclosed.

14. February 23 – SHOT DEAD IN RAMON MAGSAYSAY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR: San Fernando, Cebu, municipal councilor Alfonso Donaire IV.

15. February 26 – 1AM Jayson Mampua, So. Kimba, Brgy. San Roque, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead by an unidentified killer in Brgy. Hipodromo, Cebu City (CDN, February 26, 2019).

16. February 27 Nonilito Abay, 46, Chief Tanod of Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City, and Joel Melicar, 33, trisikad driver, both residents of Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City. Chief Tanod Abay was shot dead by riding in tandem. Melicar was killed too when he tried to block the way of the killers.

17. February 28 – 4AM Glenn Bayno Llanes, 41, Espina Compound, Brgy. Tipolo, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead while drinking with friends outside his house.

Killed in police operations in Cebu from April to June 2019

  1. April 5 Eduardo Omac Baliling (Valencia City, Bukidnon) and Henry Labajo (Zamboanga City), So. Paradise, Brgy. Looc, Mandaue City. The two men were killed by members of the City Intelligence Branch – Mandaue City Police Office when the latter served search warrants for illegal possession of firearms. The police linked the two to the Ozamiz City based “Parojinog group”
  2. April 5 Jessie Parojinog alias Oyong. Parojinog was killed by members of City Intelligence Branch – Mandaue City Police Office when the latter went to Brgy. Tingub, Mandaue City, to arrest a certain Frederex Secretario (illegal possession of firearms and ammunition). Link to “Parojinog group”. Note: Danilo Parojinog killed by riding in tandem in Brgy. Tingub on April 6.
  3. April 11 – 9PM Manuel Paz Baclohan alias Sungkil, 47, Brgy. Calawisan, Lapu Lapu City. Baclohan was killed by the police during a buy bust operation outside his house. Baclohan was 2nd and 6th in the drug watch list of Mandaue City and Lapu Lapu City, respectively. He was arrested by CIB-MCPO in August 2017 for the shooting of a barangay captain (the latter was hit in the leg and died from cardiac arrest at the hospital). Two “large packs of suspected shabu, two .45 pistols with 14 live ammunition” were recovered from Baclohan then. He was identified by an eye witness (Sun Star Cebu, August 8, 2017).
  4. April 14 – 1:30AM Jackson Bonghanoy Segundino, 35, the 4th most wanted criminal in Talisay City, alleged hitman of a drug syndicate. Segundino was shot dead by the police who served warrants of arrest at So. Lawis, Brgy. Maghaway, Talisay City.
  5. April 16 (Tuesday) – 9PM. Gilbert Dela Peña Alesir, 35, So. Mananga 1, Brgy. Tabunok, Talisay City, was shot dead by the police in a buy bust operation in Talisay City.
  6. April 29 Gerly Luwagi, 27, Most Wanted drug personality in Cebu, and Junel Lasam, So. Crusher, Brgy. Lawaan III, Talisay City but staying at hideout in Brgy. Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City . Luwagi and Lasam were killed in a shootout with members of Provincial Intelligence Branch – Drug Enforcement Unit (PIB-DEU) of Cebu Provincial Police Office who went to serve warrant of arrest issued in August 2017. Luwagi reportedly took over the drug business of Steve Go who was killed inside Mandaue City Jail in June 2018.
  7. April 30 John Paul Caidic, So. Kimba, Brgy. San Roque, Talisay City. Caidic was killed by the police in a buy bust operation in So. Kimba.
  8. May 1 – 3AM P/Cpl Feliciano Yballe, Jr., 27, member of Cebu City Police Office City Mobile Force Company, Brgy. Sudlon I, Cebu City. Yballe was shot dead by members of PIB-DEU. Initially Yballe was reported to be the suspect in the assassination of P/MSgt. Junard Cinco in Toledo City on April 30. However, the police later changed the story and claimed that what transpired at Yballe’s house was a ‘misencounter’.
  9. May 16 – around 10AM. Dean Torrefranca, a retired U.S. Marine, had shot dead Jimmy Bartilic, the barangay chairman of Lawaan 3, Talisay City, and his own stepson, Jed Ybañez. He then set his house on fire. The responding policemen shot dead Torrefranca.
  10. May 30 – 6AM Leonardo Gelasque, 34, Ronda. Gelasque was killed in Brgy. Saavedra, Moalboal by police who served warrant of arrest for frustrated murder.
  11. June 7 – past 9PM. Benjie Dela Rosa was shot by the police who responded to hostage taking in So. Cabangkalan, Brgy. Bulacao, Cebu City. Dela Rosa held his cousin and the cousin’s friend hostage. The police recovered three handguns from Dela Rosa. The cousin was wounded during the shootout.
  12. June 20 Ramil Amagos, 30. Amagos was shot dead by the police during buy bust operation at So. Magay, Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City.

  1. March 1 – 4:15AM Joey Repaso was shot dead by unknown assailants at So. Mananga II, Brgy. Tabunok, Talisay City (Banat News)
  2. March 1 – 9AM Matt Ranilio Baring, 40, vendor and tour guide, Brgy. Soong, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem.
  3. March 1 – 1:40PM Mikael “Tambok” Fernandez, 34, construction worker, So. Sto. Niño, Brgy. Pasil, Cebu City, SURVIVED an armed attack by riding in tandem. Fernandez was shot in the face while he was painting a house at So. San Roque, Brgy. Pusok, Lapu Lapu City.
  4. March 1 – 10PM Roland Ardiente, 39, Brgy. Busay, Cebu City. The victim had just milk for his child when he was shot dead (The Freeman).
  5. March 6 (Ash Wednesday) SPO3 Mikie Baruc Espina, Talisay City but assigned in Masbate. The victim who was at his chicken dressing plant in Zone 4, Brgy. Dumlog, Talisay City, was shot dead by sniper/shooter who fired his firearm from a van.
  6. March 6 (Ash Wednesday) Neil Benjamin Eugenio Yap, 34, Brgy. Quiot, Cebu City. Out on bail after having been arrested for selling ecstasy on January 11, 2018, Yap was in his car when he was attacked by riding in tandem at Brgy. Guizo, Mandaue City. The victim had just come from a court hearing.
  7. March 6 (Ash Wednesday) Janelyn Encila, 31. A sister of Jocelyn Encila who was arrested on March 3. Janelyn was shot dead by riding in tandem as she alighted from a taxi in Brgy. Labogon, Mandaue City.
  8. March 7 – 7AM. Kerwin Oraiz, 24, employee at a local mall, native of Calape, Bohol. Oraiz was shot dead while walking to his work.
  9. March 8 – morning. Jason Narrido, So. Tiago, Brgy. San Isidro, Talisay City. The victim had dropped his son off at San Isidro Elementary School when he was shot dead by riding in tandem.
  10. March 9 James Michael Remulta, 32, mechanic, Brgy. Alang-Alang, Mandaue City. The victim was shot many times by assailant who went to his place of work. The victim had previously been in jail for robbery and was facing drug related case at the time of his murder.
  11. March 11 Christine Lee Silawan, 16, Lapu City. Ms. Siliwan’s body was found on March 11. She had been stabbed to death. The case has been solved.
  12. March 13 Celso Conje Jamelo, 63, businessman, Brgy. Tayud, Liloan. The victim was ambushed.
  13. March 14 FRUSTRATED MURDER: Businessman Isidro Go, 53, survived a bullet in his head. He was shot at a cockpit in Mandaue City past 10PM.
  14. March 21 SPO2 Francis Villamor, assiged in Mindanao. The victim was shot dead at the Danao City Palace of Justice.
  15. March 22 Janice Bayarcal, 32, Brgy. Quiot, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by unidentified killer at Bayanihan Village, Brgy. Quiot.
  16. March 22. Jojie Evangelio, 19, So. Tabay, Brgy. Pooc, Talisay City. The victim was visiting in a friend at So. Canipaan, also in Pooc, when three men wearing bonnets arrived and shot her dead.
  17. March 23 – 8:10PM Maria Frelyn Dela Rita Agbon, 44, security guard at a mall, staying at Upper Riverside, Zone 2, Brgy. Dumlog, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead by unidentified killer at So. Upper Riverside, Brgy. Dumlog, Talisay City.
  18. March 24 – early dawn. Carol Dixie Bacalso, 28, Brgy. Tangke, and Felix Yaris, 30, Poblacion, Talisay City. The live-in partners were shot dead by riding in tandem at Brgy. Tabunok, Talisay City. According to the police, Ms. Bacalso was selling drugs at Tangke.
  19. March 28 – 2AM. Ricardo Avenido, 38, and Agnes Pugoy, 36, So. Lapyahan, Brgy. Labogon, Mandaue City. The live-in partners were shot dead while asleep at their home. The couple had seven children, the eldest 13 and the youngest one. The Mandaue City police said that Avenido was doing business with Jocelyn and Janelyn Encila. Jocelyn was arrested on March 3, Janelyn shot dead by riding in tandem in Labogon on March 6.
  20. March 28 – 11PM. Sandy Paquibot Kho, 36, van driver, Brgy. Gun-ob, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Gun-ob.
  21. March 28 A 19-year old college student survived being shot. He was waiting for a bus at So. Kimba, Cansojong, Talisay City.

“I’m calling all those who are linked with this drug group to surrender to authorities as they will be liquidated by the Ozamis group as the Encila family has broad knowledge of the drug syndicate of the Ozamis group so they must be silenced by their hitmen …. It is better to be behind bars than outside as the Ozamis group manifested that they can kill their members if they are already a threat to their drug syndicate.”

Fatalities in police operations in Cebu July – December 2019

July 5 – evening. Roy Dinoy, 32, habal habal driver, and Nolito Sacaday, habal habal driver and vendor of puto and cuchinta, Brgy. Pardo, Cebu City. Sacaday was shot dead on the spot while Dinoy expired at the hospital. This was the result of what the police reported as a buy bust operation at Brgy. Cadulawan, Talisay City. However, an in-law of Sacaday had a different version of events. The police, in civilian attire, went to Sacaday’s store and asked him if he knew Dinoy, the target of the buy-bust operation. The civilian attired policeman had Sacaday, who – according to the in-law – was not involved in drugs – show him Dinoy’s place. Sacaday ended up being killed on the spot.

July 11. Danilo Gamayon Balabag, 32, Brgy. Tabok, Mandaue City. Balabag was shot dead by the police during a buy bust operation at Tabok.

July 22. Roger Almodel, 23, Brgy. Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City. Almodel was shot by responding policemen after a failed robbery at Brgy. Tejero, Cebu City.

July 23 Prince James Ledesma Mapalo, 21, Pinamungajan; Alfredo Zosa, Barili; and Roque Abellar, Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City. The three men were killed by a joint team of Mandaue City Police Office and PDEA-7 during a buy bust operation at Zuellig Avenue, Mandaue City. 11 kg of shabu with estimated value of P74.8 million (P6,800/gramf) was recovered. The police link Mapalo, Zoza and Abellar to Rustico Repuela Ygot who is serving time at NBP.

July 25 Vernabe Suello, Julie Daugdaug, 30, and Aniceto Daugdaug, 31, all of So. San Lucas, Brgy. Biasong, Talisay City. Suello and brothers Daugdaug were killed by the police in a buy bust operation at So. San Lucas.

July 25. Keinlee Artista, 24, Brgy. San Isidro, San Fernando. Artista who reportedly got out of jail in May was shot dead by the police during a buy bust operation at San Isidro.

July 26 John Almons Abrenica, Lawaan I, Talisay City, and Juanito Palagtiosa, Lawaan III, Talisay City. Abrenica and Palagtiosa were shot dead by the police around 1:30AM during buy bust operation in Brgy. South Poblacion, San Fernando.

August 7 Florencio “Jong-Jong” Derecho Almerez, Jr., 30, National Road, Brgy. Looc, Danao City. Almerez was shot dead by the police at So. Lambing, Brgy. Catarman, Liloan. The police responded to a report about two armed men on a motorcycle. Almerez’ companion Aldrin Asis Lucernas, 22, was wounded.

August 10. Jorge “George” Macalinao and “Dickson”. The two men were killed when they allegedly shot it out with policemen from Cordova and Talisay City during at buy bust at So. Tabay, Brgy. Cansojong, Talisay City.

August 15. Norman Arellano, 41, Lapu Lapu City. Arellano was shot dead by a policeman who responded to a report about trouble at So. Isoya, Brgy. Mactan, Lapu Lapu City. Arellano attacked the policeman with a Swiss knife.

August 26. Eleasar Cañete, 50 and jobless, was shot dead by the police in Brgy. Nahus-an, Sogod. He was reportedly drunk and ran amok armed with a grenade and a revolver. The barangay chair called the police and Cañete was shot in the subsequent shootout.

Sep. 2 – afternoon. Jessie Harold Manugas, 31, was shot dead by the police when they served a warrant of arrest at the suspect’s home at Brgy. Sangat, San Fernando. Manugas was involved in an armed attack on a member of a rival fraternity on August 31, and in the fatal shooting of P/SSgt. Alfredo Pagaling in Minglanilla an hour later.

Sep. 2 – 10PM. Jesmer Languido Fernandez, 21, was shot dead by the police when they served a warrant of arrest at his home at Cambutan, Carcar City. Fernandez was involved in an armed attack on a member of a rival fraternity on August 31, and in the fatal shooting of P/SSgt. Alfredo Pagaling in Minglanilla an hour later.

Sep. 5 – past 5PM. Emilio “Ting Milyo” Maxilom Castro, former barangay councilor, Brgy. 5, Tuburan. Castro was shot dead by the police in an alleged shootout at Brgy. 5. H was a “high value target” and in the drug watch list.

Sep. 23 – evening. Lorenzo Lepardo, considered a “high value target”, was shot dead by the police during a buy bust operation at the cemetery, Brgy. Cogon, Cordova.

September 24 – evening. Manuel “Mario” Cutin Prada, 53, Purok Kalabasa, Brgy. Danglag, Consolacion. Prada was shot dead by the police during a buy bust operation. Three persons were arrested.

Oct. 9 – 2PM. Arbet Arbellon and Arnel Macan, both of Brgy. Bangbang, Cordova, were shot dead by the police during an alleged shootout at Brgy. Bangbang. The two fatalities were reported to be into drugs. The police operation failed to get a certain ‘Lowell “Boyet” Pacallago’, a ‘rogue’ policeman and reportedly the main target of the operation.

Oct. 20. Kevin Plaza Andales, Brgy. Lorenzo Tan, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental; Wilfredo Suerte Enguito, 47, Brgy. Lorenzo Tan; Philip Faburada, 47, Tondo, Manila City; and DC Glenn Tairos, Brgy. Lawaan, Talisay City, were killed and five others arrested for robbing jewelry stores at J Centre Mall, A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City, in the early evening of October 19. The police caught up with the suspects when they tried to leave Cebu via Palumbato Wharf in Bogo City.

Oct. 26 – 9AM. Ritchie “Kano” Eballe and Reynaldo “Yetyet” Mabuti were shot dead by the police in a buy bust operation at Brgy. Tayud, Consolacion.

Nov. 2 – 2AM. Luciano “Ciano” Dibdib was shot dead by the police. Dibdib had earlier shot his sister-in-law in the head. It happened in Dalaguete.

Nov. 6 – 5PM. Rolando “Negro” Jumao-as, Lapu Lapu City. Jumao-as was shot dead by the police during a buy bust operation at Purok Rambo, Brgy. Babag, Lapu Lapu City.

Nov. 9. Joey Tito Casas, 40, from Brgy. Guinsay, Danao City but temporarily staying in Bryg. Marangog, Bogo City. Shot dead by police in buy bust operation at Brgy. Marangog. Casas was recently released from prison due to plea bargain. He was arrested in a drug bust operation in Brgy. Guinsay in July 2017.

Nov. 19. The police shot Racky Bacang in the knee after Bacong stabbed his mother. This happened at Brgy. Cubacub, Mandaue City.

Nov. 25. Anecito Buhat, 40, Brgy. Bugas, Badian. Buhat was shot by the policemen who went to his house to arrest him. He reportedly shot at them.

Dec. 19, shortly after midnight. Louie Tanudra Singwatt and Marlon Carlos, 39, residents of Brgy. Pahina Central, Cebu City, were shot dead by policemen who responded to robbery alarm. Singwatt, Carlos and a third suspect robbed a handbag from a woman at M. Ceniza Street, Brgy. Maguikay, Mandaue City.

  1. April 6 – 12:06AM Danilo Parojinog, 46, tricycle driver, Riverside, Brgy. Tingub, Mandaue City. The victim was shot by riding in tandem at So. Pilit, Brgy. Cabancalan, Mandaue City. See April 5 2019 'Killed in police operations'
  2. April 7 Ramil Abueva, barangay councilor, Brgy. Ilaya, Ronda. The victim was shot by an unidentified gunman at Brgy. Ilaya.
  3. April 9 Thesa Mae Ygay, 14, Grade 8 student, Brgy. Tabok, Danao City. The victim was stabbed to death and hidden inside a septic tank. Jessie Mediquillo, a 34-year old security guard, confessed to the crime.
  4. April 10 – 10PM Angelo Lamboloto Llano, 29, dancer, Taguig City but temporarily staying at Brgy. Pajo, Lapu Lapu City. Llano was shot dead upon leaving the night club. A man stepped out of a Nissan Navarro and shot the victim many times.
  5. April 10 – around 11PM John Michael Hermoso, 29, and Kis Ramos, 21, were shot dead while closing down a coffee shop in Ramos Street, Cebu City. According to the police, Hermoso was the target and the motive was personal.
  6. April 12 Roland de Asis Egdamen, 42, habal-habal driver, Brgy. Quiot, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead around 1:20AM by unidentified gunman at So. Mayupay, Quiot.
  7. April 12 Reynard Escalla, 38, Carreta, Cebu City. The victim was stabbed to death at Carreta at 2AM.
  8. April 14 Michael and Fraldine Kate Canes, 27 and 24, husband and wife, owners of online business, Brgy. Umapad, Mandaue City, The victims were shot dead on their way home by riding in tandem. Their 8-year old child was seated between them and pretended to be dead. The police insisted that the couple was in the drug-watch list but relatives, friends and employees denied this.

9. April 18 – QUEZON CITY. Franz Sabalones, Cebu’s No. 1 drug personality, is shot to death by riding in tandem in Quezon City.

10. April 19 (Good Friday) Niño Rosos Alburo, 26, Brgy. Bacawan, Daanbantayan. The victim’s body was found at Brgy. Casili, Mandaue City and identified three days later.

11. April 20 (Saturday). Loyd Obrero, 35, Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City, was shot dead on the spot, while his wife, their 3-year old daughter and a friend were wounded, when four men wearing masks arrived and opened fire on the group. Orero was a drug surrenderer according to the police.

12. April 23 – early dawn. Marilyn Abraham, 44, So. Bantigue, Brgy. Luyang, Carmen. The victim was awoken by the knocking on her door. When she opened the door, she was shot dead by an unidentified man (The Freeman, April 24, 2019).

13. April 25 Primegilda Bakunawa Quirante, 46, businesswoman, a native of Dumanjug. The victim was shot dead inside her business establishment in Banilad, Cebu City.

13. April 30 – 8AM Police MSgt. Junard Cinco, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Toledo City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in Toledo City. The killing was believed to be in retaliation by ‘drug syndicate’ for the victim’s involvement in the successful neutralization of Gerly Luwagi on April 29.

Violent crime in Cebu, May 2019

  1. May 2 Cris Quiñones, 29 (female), Mananga 1, Tabunok, Talisay City, and Joy Cansancio, 24 or 27, So. Crusher, Lawaan 3, Talisay City. The two women were shot dead by unidentified person early in the morning.
  2. José Peñafil Antonio, 45, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Lapu Lapu City
  3. May 3 4PM Alvin Morales Cueva and Joel Generalao, both of Brgy. San Roque, Talisay City. The victims were shot dead inside a taxi cab at Brgy. Dumlog, Talisay City. They had reportedly posted bail for drug related cases.
  4. May 3 evening. P/MSgt. Joseph Villamor, Brgy. Babag, Lapu Lapu City, assigned with PNP Maritime Group. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in front of his house.
  5. May 6 past 4PM. Junwill Sigue, 47, a computer technician, Brgy. Mohon, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead by unknown assailant.
  6. May 11 Marben Toling Bensi, 33, Brgy. Babag, Lapu Lapu City. The vcitim was shot dead in Brgy. Basak, Lapu Lapu City.
  7. May 15 8:15PM Jessiel Bonghanoy, 25 was shot by an unidentified person at Brgy. South Poblacion, San Fernando. The gunman fled on a motorcycle that was waiting for him. The victim survived and was brought to a private hospital. No further updates available.
  8. May 16 10AM Lawaan 3, Talisay City, Brgy. Captain Jimmy Bartilic and Jed Ybañez were shot dead by the latter’s stepfather, a retired U.S. marine. The was a result of a family conflict that Brgy. Chairman Bartilic tried to settle. The stepfather was later killed by the responding police.
  9. May 19 – 3PM. An unidentified male was shot dead at So. Salvador, Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City (from Facebook)
  10. May 20 – 10:20PM. Gerald “Dodoy” Maramara Villamor, 20, Brgy. Bulacao Pardo, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead in Colon Street, Brgy. Kalubihan, Cebu City. He was shot in the back. The police said that he was a thief and had served time for drugs.
  11. May 20 – 10:40PM. Jay Bulaong Caruana, 28. The victim was shot dead at the corner of Manalili-Legaspi Streets, Brgy. Santo Niño, Cebu City. The police believed there was a connection between the killings of Caruana and Villamor. They were both thieves, according to the police, but belonged to different group. Caruana had been arrested for drugs in 2016.
  12. May 21 2:30PM Police Captain Delfin Bontuyan, Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. The victim was shot by motorcycle-riding assassins after having attended a hearing at Cebu City’s Palace of Justice.
  13. May 22 Lindy Campus Braga, 31, Brgy. Lawaan 3, Talisay City. The victim, pregnant and mother of two children aged 1 and 3, was shot in the head around 2AM while the three were sleeping.
  14. May 22 Jamar Sanchez, 37, Brgy. San Isidro, Talisay City. The victim was brought to Brgy. Tabunok and shot dead by two men past 6PM.
  15. May 24 (Friday) Sonny Sollano, habalhabal driver, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was – for unknown reason – shot dead by Rolando Castillas, a habalhabal driver, traffic enforcer and member of a local ‘force multiplier’. A responding policeman shot Castillas.
  16. May 24 – 9:30PM. Jay Brian “Bads” Basa, 41, So. Star Apple, Brgy. Umapad, Mandaue City. The victim was having a drinking session with some friends outside his house when five bonnet-clad persons arrived on three motorcycles and shot him dead. According to the Mandaue City police, the victim was in the drug watch list of Police Station 5 in Mandaue City.
  17. May 27 Juvic Abellana, Brgy. Lawaan 1, Talisay City. The victim – reportedly ‘in and out of jail’ – was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Sumbria, Lawaan 1.
  18. May 28 Nikko Baricar, 34, Brgy. Mambaling, and his friend John Paul Gallon, Brgy. Kalunasan, Cebu City. The bodies of the two victims were found, burned beyond recognition, at Brgy. Putat, Tuburan.
  19. May 30 Fritz Seno Libato, 34, Brgy. Talamban, Cebu City. The victim’s body was found in Brgy. Binaliw, Cebu City. The victim had been blindfolded and shot five times.
  20. May 31 Leomar Angana, 32, Brgy. Candabong, and Arnel Bayabian, 30, Brgy. Tapon, Dumanjug. The victims were attacked by armed men upon leaving the cockpit at Brgy. Cang-actol. Angana, believed to the target, expired the following day at the hospital. Angana was arrested at least twice before – in 2011 and 2013 – for illegal possession of firearms, among others. In April 2013 he escaped from the police detention cell.

Shooting incidents and death in Cebu in June 2019

  1. June 1 Richard Cabigas, 30, Bahay, Sibonga. The victim was shot by unidentified gunmen on his way home.
  2. June 1 Carlos Villaber, 40, Tanke, Talisay City. The victim was biking home when he was shot dead.
  3. June 1 George Torregosa Cabase, 33, Liloan. The victim was eating at an eatery when he shot dead by riding in tandem.
  4. June 4 Robert Dalman, 42, a native of Sta. Cruz, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, was shot dead by two unidentified persons inside his hut at So. Baybayon, Brgy. Pitalo, San Fernando, around 1PM. The gunmen arrived on a motorcycle.
  5. June 4. Wounded: Erglodie Bastida, 35, beautician, Deca Homes, Brgy. Tungkil, Minglanilla, was shot and wounded in her foot by her boyfriend Alfredo Espelita, 40, around 7pm inside the beauty salon.
  6. June 7 (Friday) – afternoon. Wounded: Police Lt. Marcelo Cometa, Jr., 48, Brgy. Binabag, Bogo City, assigned in Cordillera Administrative Region. Cometa SURVIVED an ambush. He was riding his motorcycle in Brgy. Anonang Norte, Bogo City, when he was fire upon from a car.
  7. June 8 Alexander Sungahid, 52, mechanic, Brgy. Opao, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem.
  8. June 9 Christian Paduga, 20, Sibacan, and Remy Capin, 18, Nangka, both of Danao City. The victims were shot dead by unknown assailants. They had attended a diskohan together.
  9. June 13 Ronnie Obenza, 50, a former seaman, Bato, Toledo City. The victim was shot by a lone, motorcycle riding gunman near his home.
  10. June 14 Jay Fernando Rusiana Cruz, 48, security guard, Mambaling, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead at 3AM in Mambaling.
  11. June 16 Alexander Lumapak, 24, from Allen, Northern Samar, but had lived in Cebu City for some years. The victim was brought to Brgy. Sinsin, Cebu City, and salvaged. He was found with hands tied, tshirt and tape around his head.
  12. June 16 Fi Yeng Guo Yang, 51, businessman, Brgy. Cubacub, Mandaue City. Four motorcycle riding persons on two motorcycles attacked the victim who was driving his vehicle near the subdivision where he lived. His two children were wounded in the attack. The police ruled robbery.
  13. June 17 Eddieboy Ortega, 35, septic tank repair man, Pooc, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead in Bulacao, Talisay City.
  14. June 18 Ricardo “Ricky” Ramirez, 55, municipal councilor and former mayor of Medellin. The victim was shot dead inside a private hospital in Medellin where he was under hospital arrest. The killers were 10-15 and came in four SUVs.
  15. June 19 Glenn Tata Balazuela, 48, Bogo City. The victim was riding his motorcycle in Bogo City when he shot dead.
  16. June 19 Delfin Sidon, 35, former inmate, Minglanilla. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Brgy. Tunghaan, Minglanilla.
  17. June 20 Vladimir Despi Alatraca, 39, Sunshine Valley, Brgy. Quiot, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by a neighbor due to a quarrel over parking space. The killer surrendered.
  18. June 20 Police Chief Master Sergeant Deogenes Carillo, Deputy Chief of Cordova Police Station. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem near Cordova Central Elementary School.
  19. June 21 Jessie Al “Nyur Insik” M. Cañares, 34, habal-habal driver, Pakigne, Minglanilla. The victim was shot dead at Pakigne.
  20. June 23 Levi James Villanueva, 22, ‘surrenderer’, Luray 2, Toledo City. The victim was shot dead by an unidentified gunman at Cantabako, Toledo City.
  21. June 25 Erlinda Garcia, 70, businesswoman. The victim was shot dead past 9PM at the Carbon Market where she was tending her stall.
  22. June 28 Baby Ulin Labandero, 40, Labangon, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead around 11AM at South Coastal Road, Talisay City.
  23. June 29 Pablo Salandron Caminse, 35, Argao. The victim, a mentally disturbed man, was staying in a cave. His mother brought him food. She found his dead body. The victim had been shot.
  24. June 30 Romeo Retuya Oca, 44, San Roque, Talisay City. The victim was found dead in Carcar City.

  1. July 4 Hariz Bell Olivo, 21, Grade 10 student, Moalboal. The victim was murdered with a hammer.
  2. July 5 Alfredo Amit, school teacher, Lapu Lapu City. Victim was shot by a lone killer at Brgy. Mactan, Lapu Lapu City
  3. July 6 Jaime Mercado Repuela, 43, Tubod, Minglanilla. The victim was shot dead at cockfight area in Cuanos, Minglanilla.
  4. July 8 Reynaldo Capada Vega, 51, habal-habal driver, Cubacub, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead at Canduman, Mandaue City.
  5. July 10 Archela Caballero, 28, Lagtang, Talisay City. The victim’s body was found at Cuanos, Minglanilla. She had been shot dead.
  6. July 11 Teodoro Mejares, 53, Casili, Consolacion. The victim was shot dead in front of his wife and grand child shortly after leaving the court in Brgy. Tipolo, Mandaue City
  7. July 11 Romeo Calunod, 56, trisikad driver, Cordova. The victim was shot dead at Brgy. Pilipog, Cordova.
  8. July 12 Julius Engbino, 43, Minglanilla. The victim was found shot dead at abandoned house in Tangke, Talisay City
  9. July 12 Jerusalem Berbo, 34, Lawaan III, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead at an apartment in Cansojong, Talisay City.
  10. July 13 (Saturday) Antonio Alpas, Jr., 35, sari-sari store owner, Brgy. Casay, Dalaguete, was stabbed to death, his throat slit, by his neighbor who got mad that the victim wouldn’t let him buy cigarettes on credit. A Facebook post a few day after claimed that the suspect had been killed.
  11. July 14 Reynaldo Amancio, 51, farmer, Brgy. Manlapay, Dalaguete. The victim was shot dead in Brgy. Bulak, Dalaguete, while walking home.
  12. July 16 Marlon Gomez, 39, Mambaling. The victim was shot dead early morning inside a billiard hall.
  13. July 18 Angel Daño Augustine, 33, Cagayan de Oro City. The victim was shot dead at So. Sto. Niño, Brgy. Barrio Luz, Cebu City.
  14. July 19 Jason Alonso, Labangon, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead in Katipunan Street, Labangon.
  15. July 19 Niñolito Abaño, 39, Brgy. Pahina San Nicolas, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by inside his machine shop. He was the son of Alejandro Abaño who was shot dead on June 28 in Getafe, Bohol.
  16. July 21 Manuel Daposales, 46, Brgy. Barrio Luz, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead at Barrio Luz.
  17. July 22 Renante Otero, Dumlog, Talisay City. The victim was shot dead then hanged from the bridge in San Isidro, Talisay City.
  18. July 22 Rico Saramosing Amodia, 39, Suba-Basbas, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at Poblacion, Cordova.
  19. July 24 Rodrigo Abella, 48, taxi driver, and Charlie Abella Parba, 40, unemployed, of Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City. The bodies of the victims were found in Mambaling past midnight.
  20. July 24 Ryan Ponce, 35. The victim was shot by riding in tandem at Brgy. Maribago, Lapu Lapu City
  21. July 25 Jimbo Gadiano, Lawaan III, Talisay City. The victim’s body was found at So. Ilang-Ilang, Brgy. Langtang, Talisay City.
  22. July 25 Magdaleno Amarado Benavente, 68, farmer, Brgy. Maloray, Dalaguete. The victim was robbed and stabbed to death on his way to his farm.
  23. July 25 Richard Inot, 30, ex-convict. The victim was shot dead at noon time at Brgy. Bangkal, Lapu Lapu City.
  24. July 26 Jehr Sigue, 27, welder, Lawaan I, Talisay City. The victim’s salvaged body was found tied to an electric post near the boundary of Campo 4 and Jaclupan, Talisay City.
  25. July 27 Eduard Sanoria, 50. The victim was shot by riding in tandem around 11PM while eating at the roadside in Looc, Mandaue City.
  26. July 29 Romy Ramas was shot dead inside the Mandaue City Jail. Ramas, in jail since May 2017 on drug charges, was allegedly connected with the late, suspected drug lord Steve Go (murdered inside the Mandaue City Jail in June 2018) .
  27. July 29 Edwin Melicor, 50, tricycle driver, Brgy. Maribago, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Bagong Bayan, Brgy. Maribago. Previously arrested for drugs.
  28. July 29 Danilo Batoctoy, 29, Brgy. Balud, Dalaguete. The victim was shot dead by a neighbor .

August 3 Jayson Mendoza Sarmiento, 22, from Brgy. Kawit, Medellin. Found salvaged at Brgy. Guizo, Mandaue City.

August 5 Juanito Menguito, 73, former PC, Andres Abellana Street, Brgy. Guadalupe, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead at So. Almacen, Brgy. Calamba, Cebu City. (CDN)

August 5 Marlina Balacy Cabellon, 60, Cogon Pardo, Cebu City, a native of Lazi, Siquijor. Shot dead in Duljo Fatima while riding her e-bike in the afternoon. Killer identified

August 6 Raymond Pastor, (19 or 29), So. Lower Kawayan, Sambag II, Cebu City. Shot dead at his home .

August 8 Junrey Soco Bauga, 38. Shot dead at Basak, Mandaue City. Suspect reportedly identified.

August 10 (dawn) Lenie Ochea Noval was mauled and stabbed to death at Brgy. Poblacion, Compostela. The police see personal grudge as motive and have arrested a suspect.

August 13 Jasper Perez, 30, Brgy. Guinsay, Danao City. The victim’s lifeless body was found at 5AM by a habal habal driver at Brgy. Dawis Norte, Carmen. The victim had been hogtied, mouth, hands and feet taped, and executed. He was allegedly involved in drug business.

August 13 2:30PM PO2 Jobie Libradilla Antipolo, absent-without-leave (AWOL) since March 2018. Antipolo was shot dead during a payroll robbery at Sta. Teresita Village, Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City. His companion got away with estimated P300,000. It is not clear who shot Antipolo. Antipolo shot and seriously wounded the security guard who brought the payroll money. Update: Pepe Acosta, Antipolo’s partner in crime, was arrested on Aug. 14 with P192,000 of the P300,000 heist. Acosta was injured by the same triggerman who killed Antipolo.

August 14 Michael Hong Yu, 38, Brgy. Nangka, Consolacion. The victim found shot dead in So. Capasanan, Brgy. Casili, Mandaue City around 11:30PM. He was identified days later (Cebu Daily News, August 17).

August 15 Morning Gil Pedida Antonio, 57, former seaman, residing at Brgy. Maribago, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was driving his multicab when he was shot dead by riding in tandem at So. Mahayahay, Brgy. Soong I, Lapu Lapu City. The victim’s two children aged five and two were not physically hurt during the incident.

August 15 – 7PM A 15-year old girl is shot dead by riding in tandem at Brgy. Panadtaran, in San Fernando.

August 16 Joel Monteroso Quijano, So. Tinago, Brgy. Alang-Alang, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead in Alang-Alang by riding in tandem. According to the police, he was linked with suspected drug personality Danilo Flores Olivar who was killed by riding in tandem, also in Alang-Alang, on October 22, 2018.

August 18 (Sunday) – 9:45AM Akira Togo, 72, Japanese national residing in Toledo City. The victim was shot dead in the street in Brgy. Poblacion, Toledo City. On August 19, the police disclosed that Police Patrolman June Zamora of Talisay City Police Station had admitted to killing Togo. His motive was personal.

August 19 Irving Querubin, 49, former seaman, Lapu Lapu City. The victim was shot dead by riding in tandem in Brgy. Pajo, Lapu Lapu City. He had just come from a court hearing in connection with a drug case. The driver of the car was wounded.

August 19 – evening. Mario E. Paraiso, 38, farmer, So. Camanggahan, Brgy. Poog, Toledo City. The victim was shot dead by unidentified killer who went to the victim’s house. The police said they heard reports that the victim was into drugs.

August 20 Nelson Rosani, 47, laborer, Brgy. Catarman, Cordova. The victim was abducted from his home by armed, masked men in the middle of the night and brought to So. Shooting Star, Brgy. Babag, Lapu Lapu City. His bullet-riddled body was found there around 5 in the morning. The police say that the victim was in the drug watch list

August 20 evening Armando “Max” Bernaldez Oppus, 34, Davao City. The victim’s body was found with bullet wounds at Brgy. Cansomoroy, Balamban. The hands were tied and the victim’s face was wrapped with boxer shorts. His burnt car was found at Brgy. Sunog, also in Balamban. Oppus was involved in an investment scheme called “Crowd Royals” originating in the Davao Region and cases for estafa had been filed in Davao City.

August 23 Raymond Montemayor Rama, 32, Brgy. Inayawan, Cebu City. The victim’s body was found floating in the waters off Shell Island, Cordova, in the morning of August 23. The body was identified on August 25 by the mother. She had last seen her son on August 21. Rama had been shot in the neck. His hands had been tied.

August 23 Murder/robbery: Francis Jacosalem, 25, internet attendant, from Brgy. Labogon, Mandaue City. The victim was shot dead in cold blood by two robbers. They got away with about P7,000.

August 24 (Saturday) – 5:30PM Eric (or Erek Jay) “Danny” Limutan, 47, job order employee at Brgy. Tingub, Mandaue City, assigned as driver. The victim, who served time at New Bilibid Prison for theft, was shot by riding in tandem when he was eating at a stall near the Tingub barangay hall. He had 14 bullet wounds. Four persons were involved in the attack.

August 26 – 3:30AM Julius Cesar Aliganga, 22. The victim was sleeping when two men broke into his house in Brty. Pangdan, Naga City, and shot him dead. The police said that the victim was in the drug watch lists of Cebu City and Talisay City.

August 26 – 7:45PM Jerwin Jumao-as, 27, Brgy. T. Padilla, Cebu City. The victim was shot dead by a gunman riding a motorcycle in M.J. Cuenco Avenue in Brgy. T. Padilla .

August 27 – Murder/robbery A 72-year old Filipino-German man was robbed and stabbed dead inside his house at Brgy. Suba-Basbas, Lapu Lapu City past 5PM.

August 31 – around 3AM. Police Staff Sergeant Alfredo Pagaling, assigned at Minglanilla police station. The victim was inside the patrol car at Lipata, Minglanilla, when he shot in the head by an unidentified gunman. He was brought to the hospital but didn’t make it. UPDATE: On September 2, the police killed Jessie Harold Manugas, 31, and Jesmer Languido Fernandez, 21, in Brgy. Sangat, San Fernando, and Brgy. Bolinawon, Carcar City, respectively. Manugas and Fernandez were identified by the person they had tried to kill (in Talisay City) about an hour before P/SSgt. Pagaling was shot. The two, escaping from the crime scene, thought Pagaling was the blocking force of the police. The first shooting incident stemmed from a fraternity war.

August 31 Mr. X. Body of victim found floating in the waters off So. Guinabsan, Brgy. Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City. The victim’s head had taken a blow, a blow that the police considered the likely cause of death.
